Operation Climate Control Help for Players
Welcome to Operation Climate Control Headquarters. Our main target is Carbon Dioxide (CO2). CO2 is a gas which is emitted by many different technologies. When this gas builds up in the atmosphere, it reduces the amount of heat that can escape into space, causing what is referred to as the Greenhouse Effect. This makes the Earth warm up, causing climate change. Your objective is simple, identify things that produce lots of CO2 and get rid of them! How to Play the GameScroll through the various policy options and try to choose ones that are low CO2 but watch out for how much they cost! Your available cash is shown at the bottom left of the screen. You'll also want to watch out for the mines hovering at the top of the screen - they're the negative impacts of climate change. You can only stop these from happening by reducing CO2. You can tell how much CO2 you're producing by looking at how full the chimney on the right is. Lastly, remember that you only have 15 minutes per turn, and there are 2 turns - if you run out of time, your score will be based on whatever you've done by then. The ScenariosThere are 2 scenarios in the game, although we hope to add more soon. Land Transport ScenarioWith the Land Transport scenario, you have to provide ways of travelling to people. As you know, people have to travel a certain amount every year. By 2050 that is going to be a lot of miles! The amount of travelling is shown in the game as clear blocks that need to be filled with coloured blocks that represent different types of transportation. Some of these ways, like cars and planes, create lots of CO2 and others don't create any. Your mission is to spend money on new ways to meet our travel demands so that we can get to where we need to go while also getting rid of as many of the big CO2 makers as possible. National Energy ScenarioAs a country, we need lot of electricity and by 2050 we'll need even more. What we will need is shown in the game as clear blocks that need to be filled with coloured blocks. These coloured blocks are the different ways to make electricity. Some make lots of CO2 and others don't. Your mission is to spend money on new ways to generate electricity so that we have enough to meet our demand and to get rid of as many of the big CO2 makers as possible. |
